Caption: "This oil painting of Alexander Majors and four Pony Express riders--Johnny Fry, Billy Richardson, Johnny Burnett, and Charlie Cliff--is to have a permanent place in the Pony Express Museum. The work of a New York artist, Benton Clark, the painting has been purchased by the St. Joseph Museum. The historic Patee House at 12th & Penn streets is the background. Majors was of the firm of Russell, Majors & Waddell, inaugurators of the Pony Express mail service. Fry, generally conceded to be the first rider, is in the center. The museum furnished the artist with photographs of the men and the Patee House. Also to be on view as a loan at the Pony Express Museum during the days of the Pony Express Centennial April 2 and 3 is another Pony Express painting by Mr. Clark. It is of a lone rider during the winter time. It is entitled 'Christmas Mail'."Lexicon
