Caption: "With much interest being created in the Pony Express stamp which will be put on sale first in St. Joseph, Horton, Kan., residents are also interested in the stamp for a mural of the Pony Express rider will be placed in the Horton postoffice. Kenneth Evett painted the mural for the section of fine arts, federal works agency. 'The real significance of the Pony Express, it seemed to me', Mr. Evett says, 'was the relationship of this daring and romantic venture to these early settlers for whom it meant one the few contacts with the outside world. In my painting I have tried to point out the excitement of the men, women, and children as the rider arrives with the mailfor a change of horses.' The mural is one of the many that are being put in postoffices throughout the United States by the federal works agency. The mural is of interest to pioneers in Horton who recall when Pony Express riders used to come through Horton and to other people in the Horton vicinity because of historical interest."Lexicon
