Description
Pony Express Stables, 912 Penn, Photo, c. 1958. b/w. Photo of the Pony Express Stables as see from reconstructed west side and front, looking southeast. Taken by Don Reynold is spring or summer with leaves on trees. The stable doors and office door is white but there is not a "Pony Express Stables" sign yet posted above stable door. On left side the back of one apartment adjacent on 10th Street is visible. (There are two photos in separate folders: A = b/w. in "XP Building". B = color negative, in "Stables-4 color separation")
Perhaps used in a Museum Graphics's article based on the caption included:
"In 1950, the Goetz family and the Goetz Brewing Company, with the interest and guidance of Mr. M. Karl Goetz and some help from the populace, restored the front half of the stables building saving all that was possible of the heavy supporting timbers and keeping intact the facade which had need only for tuck pointing and replacement of worm wood and metal. It was to stand empty and unused for nearly ten more years until." (See 97.1P.434 for succeeding caption.)
