Description

Pony Express Stables Archaeological Dig for Foundation, Photos (43), 1989. b/w & color. Snapshots taken of the open pits dug at rear of stables in an attempt to locate the original foundation of the Pony Express Stables. The dig was supervised by Michael Fisher, assisted by Ed Barlow and Bonnie Watkins, and a host of volunteers. Dig# 23BN25. These photos show the opening of two pits with signs marking the area, level and date of photo in some shots. The dig exposed brick foundation walls considered to be the original outline of the stables. An owner subsequent to the Pony Express occupation had built new foundations inside the perimeter of the original. This dig was at the rear of the Pony Express Museum as it existed in 1989.
