Pony Express Statue Restoration Photos (9), 1986. Color snapshots. In 1986, the City of St. Joseph contracted with the St. Joseph Museum to remove green oxidation on the bronze Pony Express Rider Statue at Civic Center, 10th & Frederick. In May, 1896, Bonnie Watkins of the St. Joseph Museum staff and Mayda Goodberry, University of Kansas consultant, performed the restoration.
These color snapshots show the women on electric scaffold about the Statue cleaning off the green residue and adding a protective coating.
