Description
The Pony Express by Chapman is one of the major works on the Pony Express during the 20th Century - along with Bradley and Settle. Contains sketch of rider from Hutchings California Magazine of July 1860 and some other contemporary sketches. Chapman begins with the need for the Pony Express and the existing mail routes. Then, he describes the operation and history of the Pony Express, the political problems faced by the company and the completion of the telegraph. It is a good survey. There are, however, no footnotes to the author's research. Contains bibliography and index.
