Catherine Moss Barrow, my beloved
grandmother as I remember her. Daughter of
Josiah Beattie and Mary Leach Moss. I did my
first watercolor with her in Colorado at age 7 or 8.
She loved me and better yet, she saw who I was
and valued me. She was one of the most
important people in my life. As a child and young
adult, her mother, Mary Moss, raised her very
"properly" and had taken all the numerous
portraits which one sees here. She was a
devoted daughter, writing nearly every day to her
mother whenever she traveled. Once married,
the formal potographs ceased. She was, in
herself, a very lovely, unaffected, and caring
person. She seemed to take after her father J. B.
Moss. She kept a beautiful home on 21st St. in
St. Joseph and my visits there were the happiest
times of my young life. She died of breast cancer
when I was 10. It was a terrible loss for our family
and for me personaly. She is buried with her
husband, John Doyle Barrow, in the Barrow plot
at Mt. Mora Cemetary in St. Joseph.Context
