Notes

Utilizing findagrave (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/5090069/william_fahnestock-ridenbaugh) Jon Bernard provided life dates for George Y. Ridenbaugh (1871-1928) and his father, William Fahnestock Ridenbaugh (1821-1874). WFR's birth date appears much closer to the estimate of the portrait's creation date, and the portrait compares very well with the engraved image present on the site. Bernard also provided several options for who the painter of the portrait may have been, inlcuding George P.A. Healy who was in Chicago 1854-1867, Alban Jasper Conant (1821-1915), and William F. Cogswell (1819-1903). Further research on the painting will need to be conducted, including an examination of the painting for any signatures or dates.
