Scope and Content

Post Office, St. Joseph, Mo, Postcard, c. 1916. Colorized photo or illustration of Post Office at St. Joseph. 3-story stone building with corner clock tower at 8th & Edmond. "Post Office & Custom House, St Joseph, MO". Same photo as 65.22.7; 79.41.1 , 94.34.33, 75.24.40. Unmailed Construction began in 1883 and was completed in 1890. The construction took so long because the northwest corner at Eighth & Edmond Streets sank. Parts of the building had to be taken down and rebuilt after the foundation was strengthened. The entire structure was later torn down and replaced by a newer version in the same location. The right side of this building faces Eighth Street and the left side faces Edmond.
