Construction began in 1883 and was completed in 1890. The construction took so long because the northwest corner at Eighth & Edmond Streets sank. Parts of the building had to be taken down and rebuilt after the foundation was strengthened. The entire structure was later torn down and replaced by a newer version in the same location. The right side of this building faces Eighth Street and the left side faces Edmond. St. Joseph, A Postcard History, Davis/White.Lexicon
