The innovation speeded mail service by as much ad 14 hours, and advanced mail delivery to Overland stages at St. Joseph, Missouri. William A. Davis, then assistant postmaster at St. Joseph, conceived the idea. This cover was postmarked at Hannibal, Missouri on July 28, 1962, Centennial of the car's run, and of the beginning of railway postal service. This car was built in the Hannibal & St. Joseph R. R. Shops in Hannibal, Missouri." The envelope is addressed to Mr. John D. Miller, St. Joseph, Missouri and is postmarked Hannibal MO JUL 28 1962. It contains a brown 4¢ commemorative Pony Express 1860 1960 stamp. It is stamped over with 'Centennial 1st U. S. Mail Sorted In Transit.'
