Description

Pottery/white with geometric etching, black glazed scribble designs/"Whitegout Navajo"/5"x6.5" Horse Hair Pot hand crafted by a Native American artisan. Horse hair pottery is made by using hair from the tail and main of a horse. It is fixed using a special technique. The process is very hazardous and time consuming. Fine lines are created with the hair from the mane of the horse. The thick lines are created from the hair of the tail. After the pot is fired it is rock polished. Red horse hair, and etched and glazed white horse hair pottery, has become very popular. When firing and polishing is completed deer, elk hide, and fox stones may be applied to the pot to give it a one of a kind finish.
