Proclamation Pony Express Arthur J. Meers, Mayor St. Joseph Missouri, 1966.
Whereas, almost a century ago the founding of the Pony Express was one of the important steps in the expansion of the United States and the maintenance of nation-wide communication, and the Pony Express in the period of its existence played a master role in the national destiny by forging unity between the east and west, and the thunder of pony hooves as the mail riders carried their pouches across the prairie, through the desert and over the mountain was the sound of advancing civilization, and St. Joseph played an important part in this history making communication service, I Arthur J. Meers, Mayor of the City of St. Joseph, Missouri, hereby proclaim April 3rd, 1966, as Pony Express Day, and I further urge all citizens to take advantage of the opportunity to inspect the Pony Express Museum and to pause in tribute to the wise men who conceived the pony Express and to the young men who braved death to keep the mail moving westward.
Done, at the office of the Mayor this 4th day of March, 1966. Signed Arthur J. Meers, Mayor City of St. Joseph, Missouri . The attest was signed by Walter T. Welsh City Clerk.Lexicon
