Quit Bothering the Mailman, Governor; No Letter Is Coming, News Article, April 15, 1960. St. Joseph News-Press.
If Governor Edmund Brown of California is thumbing through his mail for a Pony Express letter from Governor James T. Blair of Missouri he can give up.
Governor Blair didn't send him a letter by the Pony Express re-run. No one asked him to send a letter.
The question of the letter or rather the lack of one bobbed up when the western contingent of Pony Express re-run riders hove into Sacramento. The rider who made the last lap into Sacramento called the governor of California and said they had a letter for him from Governor Blair
But when the rider looked in the pouch there was no such letter there. The reason now is obvious. A magazine published in Sonora, CA; under the name Pony Express probably is responsible for the confusion over a letter from Governor Blair
The magazine carried a story that the governor was sending a letter, Roy Coy, director of the St. Joseph Museum said.
The report could not be stopped because it was already out. Actually they did not know for quite a while whether the governor would be here for the celebration. All were hoping for that the mail sent from here will reach San Francisco. There were reports from the coast that the western end of the ride, after reaching Sacramento yesterday, was proceeding on schedule to San Francisco--by truck.
