From his birthplace in Tennessee to a farm in Missouri, he tells of his life growing up on the frontier. He followed the Oregon Trail from Independence, Missouri to Walla Walla Washington. In 1848 he moved his family to California and tells of his experiences there. This was first published in 1880 and reprinted in 1976.
