Description

Reminiscences of Alexander Toponce. Record of Alexander Toponce's adventures as a pioneer in the rugged mountains of Wyoming, Montana, Nevada, Idaho, and Utah in 1860's and 1870's, running one of the largest freighting companies in the Northwest. The adventures focus on the transportation when the Corinne Road north from Utah was the avenue of commerce to Montana gold fields. Toponce whacked bulls for Russells, Majors & Waddell, bossed wagon trains and stage lines, supplied beef to Indian agencies and Union Pacific railroad crews, panned for gold in Montana, chased renegades, smuggled horses from Canada, and served as mayor of Corinne, UT. 221/Hardbound/Photographs
