Description

Road Ranches covers that portion along the Oregon Trail between Marysville, Kansas and Fort Kearny, Nebraska. The author states that, in doing research for a presentation to the 13th Annual Oregon-California Trails Association National Convention, she realized that there was little information on road ranches which were also an important part of the expansion of the United States. These ranches were helpful to military and freighting outfits on their way west. This book incorporates human interest stories and some reminiscences of people who lived on those ranches. 78/Softbound/Maps/Tables
