Savannah's New $80,000 School Building
Bids will be taken within the next month on the new Savannah school building, to replace the one destroyed by fire early last February. Eckel & Aldrich, St. Joseph architects who designed the new building, have sent a copy of the above drawing to the Savannah directors. The working plans for construction will be ready soon and bids will be taken. It is hoped to have the building ready to occupy when school opens next September. The building will be something novel for modern day buildings as it is solely a school building. The gymnasium and auditorium are housed in a large building immediately west of the school. That building was not damaged by the fire. Even the heating plant is separate from the school. The building is three stories high in front and two in the rear. It will be fireproof. The grades will occupy the first floor and the junior high and senior high the top floors. There are to be twenty-six rooms in the building. It will cost approximately $80,000 and much brick can be salvaged from the old building. Insurance amounting to $52,000 was collected following the fire and a bond election for $50,000 recently carried. That will provide enough money to equip the school fully. The Savannah Library is shown on the right of the school."Collection
