Shippee, Mett: Note to Jim Feagins about location of Reece Mounds, 1971. Copy of handwritten notecard dated Aug. 4, 1971 as follows:
Dear Jim: I have these notes may guide you but for me now, they are rather scrambled.
Late in August 1940--Friday--stopped on way home (from dig near Arkansas City) near Pleasanton, Kansas to see a site. Found shallow mounds in corn field and woods but nothing of importance, however the area needs exploring, as does S.E. Kansas. This area near Pleasanton was reported to me by D.W. Cameron of the N.K.C. Hgh School who formerly lived there. The mounds I saw were on the farm of the E.E. Reece (farm was just south of a cross road. mounds were ¾ mile sough of cross road). Others are north on farms of W.Wallace Cameron, Silers and Pritchetts. Crops were hiding those on the latter places which are ½ mile north of the cross road east of Potosi School Dist #74. South of Mr. Reece's field in which the shallow mounds appear, a neighbor once diverted a creek and in so doing uncovered a "lot" of "relics". This last place was west of the road, ¼ mile further than the Reece mounds but was 1/8 mile north of the cross road, which is a mile south of Potosi School.
Buried cable of the Bell Telephone Co. parallels the north south road. May lie thru the sites.
Mr. Reece spoke of 2 large stone pipes which came from these sites, but are in other states (in collections) now.
