A Short History of the Chinese is Mary A.Nourse 's experiences during her stay in China from the last years of the famous Empress Dowager and the revolution of 1911, to the beginning of the Republic, later of various warlords, and the coming of the Nationalists. Her last trip was in 1937 just before the outbreak of the war with Japan.
