Notes

These glass slippers were created as souvenirs for the World's Fairs in the 19th century, notably the 1876 Philadelphia World Fair celebrating the centennial of the United States and the 1893 Chicago's World Fair celebrating Columbus' expedition that found him in the Americas. This 1893 glass slipper was likely created by Libbey Glass Co, which was the only American glass firm represented at the World's Fair in 1893, having promised to build a fully functioning glassware factory where visitors to the World's Fair could watch over 40 glass blowers created glassware. Libbey Glass Co. was one of the only exhibitors to charge admission to the building, but Libbey allowed visitors to put that admission fee towards the cost of buying a glass souvenir, like this glass slipper.
