2012.3.3Description
Society of Memories Doll Museum Scrapbook, Vol. 2, 1983-1986 begins with Orrel Andrews' plan for displaying her doll collection. The scrapbook also includes a detailed list of dolls that were stolen on November 8, 1983. Included are news clippings and court records regarding the robbery and subsequent conviction of the robbers.
The Museum was founded in 1968 when an antique doll collection belonging to the late Orrel Andrews was sold at an auction. A group of ladies, wanting to preserve these rare and beautiful dolls, held a fund raiser and collected enough money to purchase a few of the dolls. With these dolls, loaned treasures, and gifts, the ladies began the doll museum.
The first location of the Museum was at 1501 Penn St, St. Joseph, Mo. In 1984 it moved to 913 Second St, and then to its last location at 1115 S. 12th St., St. Joseph, Missouri. The Museum closed in 2011 and donated its collection to the St. Joseph Museum.
