Description

Spain and the Plains is a well-researched volume written by nationally known authors and treats the realities of the Great Plains by considering it as a northern frontier of New Spain, a frontier antedating the northern European presence in North America, and a frontier that included cultural blending between Spanish and Native peoples as well as conquest. It discusses exploration, migration, and the realities of the practical aspects of Spanish-Mexican daily life on the Plains in the eigthteenth and nineteenth centuries. It concludes with an epilogue which treats the evolution of several Hispanic groups and the various kinds of racism and misrepresentation that met them on the Plains in those centuries.
