Sunday Evening -
14 January 1945
Dear Pop,
I was glad to get your letter of a week or so ago. You do a pretty good job of pinch-hitting for Mom. I guess she was pretty busy there for awhile, with the Christmas rush, besides all her usual jobs, besides having all the company, too.
Today has been a lazy day for me. I've mostly stayed in the company area. I lay around for awhile on the bunk and read the Readers' Digest you and Mom sent me for Christmas, took up and picked up the mail, sorted and distributed it, and wrote letters to Barbara Mann and Libern Roberts.
Work around here has slackened down somewhat. We are all being issued new clothing. I haven't got mine as yet, but may before long.
Just finished playing a game of pool with three of the fellows. We played 8-ball. We really have a pretty good bunch of fellows here.
The day room has been remodeled by our company carpenters. The've put in small built-in writing tables, with built-in lights. Really nice.
I'd still like to get a 3-day pass, but doubt if I'll be able to for awhile. Like you say, I can't have what I want when I want it. That's the way of the Army, I guess.
Well, I can't think of much more to say, so I'll close for now.
As always,
