Context

April 17, 1947 Dear Bob, You have no idea how much I enjoyed that wonderful box of chocolates you sent Easter. It was awfully nice of you Bob, and incidentally my room mate enjoyed them immensely. Life in Ft. Worth is still dragging on, and work gets heavier & heavier - what with a lot of veteran patients having come from Waco. Our home life is a bit nicer though since Lee & I bought a hot plate to cook on, and lured a new gal, Margery Scott, (24) to come live with us. Incidentally, we were plutocrats and got a double hot plate. Our most oft repeated meals (no matter what hour) take the form of bacon & eggs. We're still not quite up to Toddle House form, but figure there's always a chance for improvement. Sort of as a supplement to our dinner tonight we sent Lee out for a Toddle House Pie. I have not said much about this to anyone yet, but things with Paul Mathews (whom I think I mentioned before) have been getting more and more serious, and I think when he comes back in May, perhaps things will come to a head. Lee has just come back with the pie and Scott put on a beautiful exposition when she slipped and the pie did a beautiful, jacknife before it landed on her uniform, such is life. St. Joe must be beautiful now in Spring and wish I were there. It really is looking very pretty around here, but somehow I keep looking for lilacs and bridal wreath & tulips, but there don't seem to be any around. Maybe I'm expecting them too early. Spring really makes me want to break loose and head for the great outdoors, or race across the country sort of vagabond like. (Just attribute this to severe Spring Fever.) It sounds asif you're doing very well in your job, as you might very well expect to. Have you decided to stay on at the Burlington or go back to school in the fall? Your experience while your mother was in Texas probably gave you a great deal of valuable experience. Texas is really having the disasters these days what with the tornado in the Panhandle and those explosions at Texas City. Several of the doctors have gone to " " to assist again. Bob, thanks so much for the candy you know how I love it. Write when you have the time. Kathleen
