Research Notes

Notes

The Nelson Atkins Museum has similar spoons on display. Their interpretation reads : Spoons of this type were used on formal occasions. Embellished with images depicting clan crests and family myths, the minute, precisely carved figures are arranged just as they were on monumental totem poles. They affiliate their spoon with Haida or Tsmishian from British Columbia. (1840-1860)
