St. Joe. Road, Emigration in the Mid-1800's. St. Joe Road is a traveler's guide along the section of the California Trail from the jumping off point on the Missouri River, near present day St. Joseph, MO, through today's NE Kansas, to the junction of the St. Joe and Independence Roads just west of Marysville, Kansas. The two roads formed the Oregon-California Trail. During the major emigration years of 1849-1850 and 1851, St. Joseph Missouri led all the other jumping-off points in number of emigrants. These were usually gold-seeking wagon parties of men not family groups. This book is presented as a guide so that you may drive your car and visit the sites described. A map is included.
