Scope and Content

St. Joseph Gazette, 1950. Pike's Peak Stables, starting point for the gold hunters of the fifties. A site of historical interest to St. Joseph--Ben Holiday and the Pony Express-A daring and romantic project of the border. John Burlington presented the Board of Trade with a picture of the old Pike's Peak stables. Toward the close of the fifties the Pike's Peak stables were quite a prominent institution, but of the original building there is little left now save the roof and a few pictures. As soon as the railroads furnished a more rapid means of transit the Pike's Peak stables were abandoned. There is a picture of the stables. The picture is the property of St. Joseph Historical Society-1950.
