What Makes a City? Not smokestacks Alone.
Newspaper Photo: St. Joseph has large industrial and railroad districts. It has streets lined with fine homes. But it has more, something of which few cities can boast. The boulevard system is the envy of cities ten times as large. This remarkable air view north of Hyde Park shows the sweeping hairpin curves which carry boulevard traffic over the hump east of King Hill. Miles and miles of boulevards connect beautiful parks. This in reality is the new St. Joseph.
Newspaper Photo: Air view of the Civic Center offers a remarkable contrast of the St. Joseph "that was" and the city "that is". The area is ringed by buildings of older architecture which blend with those of modern design. In the triangle in the foreground is the Pony Express monument. The city hall is regarded as one of the most beautiful buildings of its kind in the nation. The Civic Center is considered a model.
