St. Joseph State Hospital Monthly Reports of Additions & Deductions to the Payroll, Layoffs, & Other Records, 1970-1984. 3-ring binder containing St. Joseph State Hospital employee monthly additions & deductions to the payroll. Date ranging from July 1970 to December 1984. Not all months during this time period are accounted for.
In the front & back pockets of the binder are several small phone directories for the State Hospital. Also a memorial pamphlet for Bill Landers, a 1967 welcome booklet for the department of nursing & a 1961 program for psychiatric aide graduation exercises.
The binder is divided into 3 sections. The first section is tagged
Employee Reports. Each month has a list of employees added to the payroll, their county, job title & the date they started. Each month also has a list of employees deducted from the payroll, their county, job title & date. After the deduction list is a numbered list of Reasons for Separation & this list corresponds with the number before the employees name. In April 1982 the monthly employee reports included the Woodson Children's Psychiatric Hospital and the State Hospital. This continued until July 1984 when the reports went back to just the State Hospital monthly reports.
The second section is tagged Lay Off. This section contains an official memorandum from the state of Missouri concerning budget curtailment. This memorandum concerns layoffs. There is also a page of Layoff Questions & Answers. The last page of the section is a letter given to employees that has two proposals to help alleviate a massive layoff. This letter is to be signed by the employee & returned to their supervisor.
The third section is tagged Other Records. These include:
- Fact sheet given to employees about things they should know before voting in the September 30th election.
- A letter concerning the life & recent death of Staff Psychiatrist George Callman, M.D.
- A bio sheet on Patricia A. Schumacher, Director of Nursing Services.
- A statistics sheet on the St. Joseph State Hospital concerning the location, telephone #, when founded, annual appropriation, acreage of property owned & administrative staff information. Attached to this sheet is a directory giving the department & the departments supervisor.
- Small booklet containing a chronological listing of superintendents & business managers for all the state hospitals in Missouri.
- A personnel report concerning full & part time positions & the number of employees in each department. Also a sheet of facts about the St. Joseph State Hospital.

- Several pages concerning employee orientation & feedback sheets from employees on their orientation.
