Polar Star It Was a Long Time Ago, 1950.
The newspaper article has a picture of a ticket for the Polar Star. The ticket states that Thomas H. Brierly is the Master and C. D. Blossom is the clerk. The ticket is the regular Tuesday passenger packet for Missouri River. The New elegant and Fast Steamer is the Polar Star. It leaves for St. Joseph, Weston, Fort Leavenworth, Parkville, Kansas, Independence, Liberty, Richfield, Sibley, Camden, Wellington, Lexington, Dove, Waverly, Carrellton, Miami, Brunswick, Glasgow, and all points below, every other Tuesday, at 4 o'clock P. M.
The above was an 1854 timetable. At the time the advertisement was issued 101 years ago the Polar Star held the speed record for the trip from St. Louis to St. Joseph of a time of two days and 20 hours. The record was made on August 12, 1853. Brierly was captain. The time was beaten only once on July 22, 1856, when James H. Lucas posted a trip of two days, 12 hours and 57 minutes.Lexicon
