Scope and Content

Sterling belonging either to the J. B. Moss estate or to daughter Catherine Moss Barrow. Many pieces are monogramed "CMB" and were wedding gifts on the occassion of Catherine's marriage to John. D. Barrow. Given previously to the St. Joseph Historical Society and therefore not included in this compendium, was a small booklet with a list of each guest at the Catherine Moss wedding, the gift they gave and their address. This small booklet is invailuable in identifying where prominant members of 19th c and early 20th c. St. Joseph society were living at the time, 1919. It was given to the Historical Society during the tenure of Mr. Clyde Weeks in 2014. He was fascinated by it. The small bell was certainly Mrs. Mary Moss's bell for ringing up a the maid. But much of the sterling belonging to the Moss's was sold at the time of J. B. Moss's bankruptcy in the late 1920's. The date of sterling lacking a monogram could be determined by an expert.
