This is written on a piece of paper that is glued to the cane. "This cane was cut on the place near the residence of John Brown where he was born by Wm McCook of Goshen Ct. the present owner who at the dedication May 30, 1900 Cornwall Hallow CT., of the Monument and Howitzer to General John Sedgwick. Presented this cane and statement fo Col. A.B. Lawrence - see also the photo of residence - "The Towington House." Newspaper article also attached - poor condition.
