Stirring Story of St. Joseph, Missouri and the Pony Express by Major G.H. Simpson, c. 1924. Small booklet created by Wheeler & Motter Mercantile Co., titled "The Doorway to Successful Merchandising" on the occasion of its 100th Anniversary. Although the booklet includes photo of W.W. Wheeler and the Wheeler factories in St. Joseph & elsewhere, the majority of the booklet contains the story of the Pony Express, photos of riders and scenes of the re-run of the Pony Express in 1923. And advertises the progress of the city in 1949. The 1923 re-run called a race was started by President Calvin Coolidege, who, at 10 am, pressed a golden telegraph key and flashed a signal to St. Joseph to begin the race, which crossed the country but not necessarily true to the original trail.
