Research Notes

Notes

This artifact is called a pendant stone, which refers to its likely use as a type of necklace or charm. These were likely worn at the throat, however early explorers in Indiana (where this artifact was found) witnessed members of the Miami Tribe wear stone pendants and gorgets in their hair.
