Research Notes

Notes

This bannerstone was found in Marion County, Indiana, where the Miami, Potawatomi, Wea, and Delaware tribes lived. This bannerstone likely dates to the Archaic period, which dates from 6000-1000 BCE. Archaeologists are not 100% sure what bannerstones were used for, but it has been hypothesized that these were added to arrows, spears, or atlatls to help provide counterbalance and increase accuracy and power.
