Notes

This is a Civil War Model 1840 Musicians Sword. These would have been carried by army musicians, or other non commissioned officers and the design was based on a sword used by the French Army. Ames Mfg Co. was the primary manufacturer of the M1840 NCO swords, though other companies were contracted during the Civil War. These swords were designed to be functional for self defense. These sword style is used in modern times as a ceremonial sword.
