Description

Terror at the Door is a novella about the Missouri-Kansas border conflict, 1859-1861. The basis for the story are letters preserved in the University of Kansas Libraries at Lawrence written by Marcus Gill, a Missouri slave owner. Gill was caught in the border lawlessness of time. "He found a champion in William Clarke Quantrill, legendary Missouri bushwhacker, who has been called both a hero and 'the bloodiest man in American history.' The letters portray Quantrill as a frontier schoolteacher and a complex man. Novella is of the relationship between the law-abiding Missouri farmer and the self-appointed avenger, William Clarke Quantrill. 120/Softbound.
