Description

Thinking Like a Mountain is the study of Aldo Leopold and the evolution of an ecological attitude toward deer, wolves and forests. Graduating from the Yale Forest School in 1909, his first job with the U.S. Forest Service was to lead a reconnaisance crew to map and cruise timber in the Apache National Forest. He studied the southwest game fields and the Wisconsin deer population in the years that followed. He became interested in showing the problems in ecological research and game management. This book is a study in the evolution of a way of thinking, at both personal and public levels. It seeks to probe what it means to think ecologically and to deal with an ecological issue in the public arena. 284/Softbound/Maps/Photographs
