Tootle & Leighty: Wertz Bros. Chattel Mortgage for 35 head of Cattle in Marshall Co., Kansas, 1884. Wertz Bros have bought 80 head of cattle from Tootle & Leighty of Marshall County, Kansas. They took out a mortgage of $1140 to be paid to Tootle & Leighty in twelve months at the Merchants Bank in St. Joseph, MO including 10% interest. To secure the loan they pledged 35 of these cattle. The note was later assigned to T.E. Tootle.
