Scope and Content
Tootle, Thomas E.: Letter to his Wife from Helena, Montana, July 30, 1869. Tootle is on a business trip hoping to close out a concern, but says he will have to continue it another year. He remarks on how healthy the climate and people are in the mountains and says he will make plans for his family to spend next summer there. Handwritten.
He plans to leave there by stage to Salt Lake City. The stage only goes every other day. The trip takes four days and nights. His wife and children are evidently in Salt Lake.
While in the mountains he plans to visit some mines that are 5-6 miles above town, also to visit some Missouri acquaintences. He saw a St. Jo Gazette paper there that announced the departure of Maj. Barrow & wife for the mountains.
