Description

Trials and Triumphs, 1856. Full title is Eleven Thousand Trials and Triumphs (for half a century) in the Life of G.W. Henry, as experienced while sojourning forty years in Egypt, one year in the slough of despond, three years in twilight, and six years in land of Beulah; together with the religious experience of his wife, to which are added one hundred spiritual songs, with music. The book is the life of a blind preacher. It has no relationship to the physical land of Egypt, rather the spiritual poverty of the soul of which biblical Egypt is a symbol. The story details his life from sinner to evangelist, perhaps Methodist and includes happenings at camp meetings, people he encountered. The fly leaf of the book is inscribed: Mrs. Harriet Bristol's book bought in Hamsburgh (unreadable).
