Scope and Content

Tribute to Hotel Robidoux, booklet , Frank S. Popplewell 1976 Hotel Robidoux from 1908 -1976. (same as 95.13.10) A newspaper story of September 16, 1908 announced the opening of the Robidoux. Mayor A. P. Clayton was first to register. In every room there was a reading lamp. When Robidoux opened its doors in 1908 forty passenger trains brought travelers, visitor and conventioneers to its quarters. Located on the main trolley lines, it was the most convenient of all the hotels. Especially memorable is the Bar'n and its Pony Express map. Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt came to unveil the map copies of which hang today in the Wells Fargo Bank in San Francisco and in countless other inns across the land--all bearing the name: Hotel Robidoux. Author is professor emeritus, Missouri Western State College.
