Notes

From Harry l. George Catalog - "Cherokee Delmfer (violin), made by John Mawhee, 3/4 Cherokee as name shows on bridge; Mawhee left the reservation after the Civil War in which he fought as a Confederate. He lived at Lamar City, Barton Co. Mo. where his descendant, Mrs. L.A. Graves now resides." Added to this information is that he also lived at Marshfield, Webster Co., Mo. Correction - John Mawhee actually served with the 3rd Regiment Indian Home Guard in the Union Army. - Nov. 2018, SME "The Third Regiment was formed at Talequah and Park Hill in July 1862. It was commanded by Colonel William A. Phillips. Many of its troops had previously fought for the Confederate Army, particularly the First Cherokee Mounted Rifles that had been commanded by Colonel John Drew." - Wikipedia.
