Description

Why Do You Worry Club, Sugar Lake, Group Photo, c. 1920. Photo of a group of about 30 men in overcoats and derby hats, standing in a field, building in background. Two men in front drinking from cup. Handwritten on back: "The Why do you worry club of Sugar Lake. We believe this picture is to be about 80 or 85 years old." According to the Jan. 8, 1912 St. Joseph News-Press, this was a hunting club that had a club house on the shores of Sugar Lake. On that day they had a barbecue hosted by Jack Holland. A Nov. 14, 1914 & Oct. 25, 1915 news articles report the club name as "Wydouwurry" and seems to then be associated with baseball leagues. Holland was manager of St Joseph's Drummer's semi-pro team. Stamped on back bottom left: "Roberta (Birdie) Heerlein, 4004 Pickett Road, St. Joseph, MO 64503, 816-233-0475)
