Description

William Bent and His Adobe Empire. May 23, 1809-May 19, 1869. Bent's Fort became a legend of enterprise in its day with its thick adobe walls above rising out of the prairie and the continuous stream of Indians, wagon trains, trappers, and mountain men passing between its gates to trade and seek shelter. Mr. Bent was a go-between for Indians and Whites and had a half-Indian son. His son turned against him to take up the battle with the Indians who had been wronged and misjudged. This is a study that shows the measures of success and failure that went into the winning of the West. 192/Hardcover/Red
