Would Make Museum Part of Memorial, 1947.
The St. Joseph Museum is making its bid for inclusion in the war memorial. At a board meeting the directors went on record as unanimously favoring a museum and concert hall be erected as a joint war memorial and to be placed under the supervision and control of the city museum board. The meeting at Hotel Robidoux was called by Luther E. Reid vice-president of the St. Joseph Museum board. it was the result of numerous inquiries concerning the museum's inclusion in the memorial plans.
The museum would be under the direction of the city appointed museum board. The museum director, Roy E. Coy , stated the institution had available more than 10,000 articles of natural and historical interest to place on display for the public's enjoyment, but has the space to show only about 4,000 at a time. Other collections are available but lack of room prohibits their acquisition. The board suggested that the structure be known as the St. Joseph War Memorial and the St. Joseph Museum.
