Description

Writings of Christopher Columbus is subtitled Descriptive of the Discovery and Occupation of the New World. It is edited, with an introduction, by Paul Leicester Ford. The editor felt publishing Columbus' writings would dispel questions about whether Columbus found America by chance or whether he set out looking for new land along with his theory that the earth was round. This theory had been promoted by philosophers such as Virgil, Plato and Aristotle, but was largely dismissed. The author also discusses the Norse explorations. 255/Hardbound.
