Wyeth, Huston Residence, 3001 Frederick Avenue, 1918. Designed by Eckel & Aldrich, Architects. Constructed 1918. This is the main mansion on the Wyeth Estate, a large acreage off Frederick Avenue. The mansion set well back on the acreage, accessed by a long drive. Later another home was built east of this house on the estate for his son, William M. (See 07.33.867). A guard house and a Japanese tea room completed the buildings on the estate at a later date, and a tall iron fence surrounded it.
In late 1980's, after Huston's death, the estate was sold to a developer, who removed the fence, remodeled the two homes and guard house into offices, and added office buildings of similar style that are occupied by doctors and other professionals, the main drive becoming Maartens Drive. The Japanese tea house was moved to a location adjacent to the Patee House, 12th & Penn.
