James, Jesse, Photo taken about Time of his Wedding (3), c. 1874. b/w. Three identical photos in two sizes, copies of an oval photograph of James in frame. Typed at bottom of #79. "Jesse W. James, I hereby certify that the above is the only late photograph of my deceased husband, taken before death. Mrs. Jesse W. James. #80 & 81 are cropped from #79 and/or enlarged. (Taken from original daguerreotype in Library of Congress). Original style sepia photo, perhaps sent by Mrs. Zee James herself to landlord of James House is 538/12686)
(Museum Graphic, Spring, 1957, states" Jesse James as he appeared about the time of his marriage in 1874. It was given to the Saint Joseph Museum by our Saint Joseph friend who was thirteen years old when Jesse James was killed. The only copy of this picture during Jesse's lifetime was the single copy which Mrs. Zerelda Samuels wore as a pendant around her neck. It was the last adult picture taken of him.)
Shows James, head/shoulder, as young man with short dark hair, receding hairline, beard shadow, no mustache. He is wearing a light suit jacket, and dark ribbon at neck tied in bow.
